How to Tame in Smalland; All Animals and Treats
In this guide we will talk about taming in Smalland. We present all creatures to tame and their favourite treats.
On March 29th an interesting game debuted in Steam Early Access – Smalland: Survive the Wilds. It’s an open world, survival crafting title that puts you in shoes of an Elf venturing through magical landscape. This exciting journey allows the player to experience the world from a perspective of a small creature. The scale of the game and its environment makes bugs, insects, and other critters deadly enemies… but also friends! Let’s figure out which of the tiny animals in the game can stand as your allies and how to achieve that.
How to tame an animal
Taming an animal in Smalland is a straightforward process. It requires the player to firstly weaken a creature down to 50 percent health or less and then feed it with its favourite treat. With those conditions fulfilled, a prompt will appear allowing the animal to be tamed. As the game is currently released only on PC, by default it’s an “F” key or, if you are playing on a controller, either “X” or “Y” button depending on the device used.
It is worth noting that every animal has its own treat that will allow it to be tamed. The proper “delicacy” itself must be available in your inventory. There is no need to equip it or drop it.
Which animals can be tamed
Currently, there are five critters that can be tamed. More are planned as the game develops. Those five creatures, alongside their treats, are:
- Grasshoppers: Grasshopper Treat: 3x Insect Egg, 1x Petal, 2x Seed Oil
- Damselflies: Damselfly Treat: 3x Firefly Juice, 1x Petal, 2x Seed Oil
- Wolf Spiders: Wolf Spider Treat: 1x Grasshopper Leg, 2x Spider Eye, 3x Insect Wings, 1x Petal, 2x Seed Oil
- Geckos: Gecko Treat: 2x Ant Head, 2x Bee Head, 1x Petal, 2x Seed Oil
- Ladybugs: Ladybug Travel Kit: 3x Edible Mushroom, 2x Nectar, 5x Fiber
While most of the critters are used as mounts, ladybugs fulfil the role of additional storage space and can’t be mounted. Be careful with entrusting your precious materials to them though as in the current version of the game they may glitch and make their storage inaccessible.
Early game allows only for Grasshoppers and Ladybugs to be domesticated, while the rest of the critters can be tamed after defeating some of the game’s bosses and obtaining crafting recipes for their treats.
