How to Save in Chained Together, Checkpoint System Explained
If you are disheartened that you have to start from scratch each time in Chained Together, here you will learn how to utilise saves and checkpoints in this game.
It seems that not everyone has been engulfed in the Shadow of the Erdtree, as recently an interesting cooperation title has started getting a lot of traction. Chained Together’s main focus is put on co-op, yet nothing stands on the way to try it out alone. Due to its multiplayer nature, however, saving yours and your friends’ hard-earned progress is not straightforward. Is it possible at all? Let’s take a closer look at how the developers from Anegar Games handled this situation and check if there is a checkpoint system featured in this production.
Saving progress in Chained Together explained
There is no explicit saving system in Chained Together. The title, however, appears to track your progress continuously and creates save point each time you leave the game or at every new stage (when a title appears). Players used to have problem with that, as accessing the saved game was unintuitive. You had to start the new climb and get to the menu. Then, you needed to “load previous save”.
Now, the process should be a little bit easier, as developers have reworked saving system. The game still saves at exit and new stage (when the title appears). However, you can access your progress from the menu where you create a game. Be sure to pick your save before starting a run.
According to the developer’s announcement on Discord, saving the game will disable sending your score to leaderboard.
Note, that it is required to leave on your own to make use of the specific save system in this title. Death on “lava” difficulty will make you to start from scratch no matter what.
But wait. You would ask – what about checkpoints that were mentioned before? Well, that’s a bit different story…
Checkpoint system in Chained Together
Since Chained Together doesn’t feature conventional saves, why do we suddenly talk about checkpoints? Because in order to get them, you have to choose the “Beginner” difficulty while starting a new game. This will allow you to utilise 3 checkpoints on your way up from hell that are around the following heights (thanks to user itsSanCarlo):
- 576m,
- 1675m,
- 2757m.
There is a caveat, though. While not that important for most of the fans, playing on “Beginner” locks you out from the leaderboards. If you would like to compete with others, bear it in mind and use this difficulty for practice. Good luck on your way to the top!
While it is not stated in the Chained Together itself, there is information in the Steam description of the game that Beginner mode does not unlock achievements. At the moment of writing, it seems that many people have different issues with them, so it is difficult to precisely pinpoint how they should work.
