How Much Money is Minecraft Making? Dev Reveals Revenue and Number of Active Players
One of the developers working on Minecraft reported on his social media profile about the game's earnings and the number of active players.
Jeff Y., one of the chief game developers at Microsoft, revealed on his LinkedIn profile , that Minecraft earns more than $100 million in revenue annually. The information contained in the profile, also reveals that the title is consistently popular - it records about 160 million active players each month. The developer does not specify on which platforms these results were obtained, although we can assume that the case applies to all hardware on which Minecraft was officially released .
Recently during the Minecraft Live 2023 the developers revealed that the game has sold a total of more than 300 million copies, which is one of the best results in the history of the game industry - the title is second only to the iconic Tetris, getting ahead ofGrand Theft Auto V by more than 100 million copies.
In Minecraft the player freely roams procedurally generated worlds in which all elements consist of cubes or participates in story-driven adventures. The essential elements of gameplay are obtaining raw materials, crafting, gaining experience and building your own structures and equipment. Startegy game Minecraft Legends and action adventure game Minecraft: Dungeons were created on its base. To date, the sandbox has been released on PlayStation 3, 4 and Vita, Xbox 360 and One (the title is also compatible with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S), Nintendo Switch, 3DS, Wii U and Amazon Fire; on Android and iOS mobile devices; on PC, Mac and Chromebook.
