One of the biggest surprises of Xbox Developer Direct 2025 was revival of Ninja Gaiden series. Fans were able to see the brand new installment of the franchise – Ninja Gaiden 4. Moreover, remastered version of Ninja Gaiden 2, subtitled Black, was also presented. The latter has been already released, so you can try it. Many players wonder how long the game is. Let’s talk about how many chapters remastered NG2 has.

How many chapters are in Ninja Gaiden 2 Black?

Ninja Gaiden 2 was originally launched in 2008. Later, this slasher was released in several editions on different platforms. Each of these versions offered bigger or smaller changes – including different bosses and playable characters, for example.

The latest revision of this game – Ninja Gaiden 2 Black – was released on January 23 and it’s available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S (you can also try it out via the Game Pass subscription). Developers from Koei Tecmo used Unreal Engine 5 to create up-to-date graphics. They have improved the quality of the game visuals like lighting or character models.

So, what about gameplay and story? Like in other versions of NG2 (except for the original Ninja Gaiden 2 from 2008) in Black you must complete 17 main chapters. Finishing the story should take you around 9 hours. The game offers four different playable characters: the main protagonist called Ryu, and 3 guests: Ayane, Momiji and Rachel. You can challenge yourself on one of the five difficulty levels. Additionally, you have access to 35 team missions. Developers also introduced a brand new boss – The Dark Dragon.
