„Hopefully He'll Think I'm Right for the Part”. Keanu Reeves Begged to Star in One of the Best Trilogies in Cinema, But Was Not Chosen
Keanu Reeves fought for a role in the famous trilogy, however, despite his efforts, he failed to appear in the films.
Keanu Reeves has starred in famous cinematic series like Matrix and John Wick, but there is one that he was very keen on, but despite his efforts he failed to appear in it. Years ago, the actor fought for a role in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy, however, nothing came of it.
Reeves wanted to play Aragorn, also known as Strider, in the film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's novel, but as we already know, the role went to Viggo Mortensen. Despite the fact that the Matrix star tried to get it and said in interviews (via Startefact) that he was suitable for it, Peter Jackson ultimately set his sights on another actor.
I'm petitioning to play Strider. I'd love to work with [Peter Jackson], but I'm not sure if it's going to go ahead. I hope I can.
I want to play Strider in Lord of the Rings. Peter Jackson is doing that and I might have to go begging for the role. I have people making calls right now. Hopefully he'll think I'm right for the part. I'm the man. I'm there.
With Lord of the Rings didn't pan out at the time, but Reeves certainly can't complain about how his career, which can be counted as successful, has turned out. The actor has had interesting roles in numerous productions and is still eagerly cast in more projects.
And if his dream of playing a role in The Lord of the Rings and working with Peter Jackson isn't lost, he still has a chance to fulfill it, as the filmmaker is returning to Middle-earth with a new project – The Hunt for Gollum – which may include a role for Reeves.
