Hitman 3 Confirmed. Devs Work on a New Franchise
IO Interactive studio has confirmed a new Hitman. NoClip's report shared what little info it has on the game. What's interesting, the Danish studio is currently focusing on a different, mysterious project.
Hitman fans have received confirmation that the next installment of the stealth game series is being developed. The confirmation is not an announcement or any other official info from the devs, but... a documentary film. We are talking about the material prepared by Noclip group, which creates reports on video games. The last one was devoted to IO Interactive studio, and during the conversation the devs confirmed that work on Hitman 3 is already underway. Hitman 3 will probably follow in the footsteps of its predecessors and be divided into episodes, although from the words of Hakan Abrak, the studio CEO, it appears that this is not a foregone conclusion. What's more, Abrak revealed that in the game we will see "all locations", starting from Paris, which we saw for the first time in the first installment of refreshed Hitman from 2016, and ending with the final place of the new installment. This will give us a total of more than 20 areas in which we will be able to improve our skills as a silent killer. Perhaps we will learn more from the next three materials announced by Noclip.
The official announcement of Hitman 3, although in an unusual form, is certainly a welcome one. After the launch of Hitman 2, the devs somehow didn't eagerly report the game's sales results. This raised concerns as to whether the good reviews translated into commercial success, especially as the second installment had the misfortune to debut in the company of such long-awaited titles as Red Dead Redemption 2, Fallout 76 and Battlefield V. The information about the creation of a new studio and further development of the Hitman franchise seemed to dispel doubts in this matter. Now we are confident that the future of the series is not at stake.
However, it is not Hitman 3 that is the apple of the Danish developer's eye. At least that's what Hakan Abrak's statement seems to suggest. As he said, most of the members of the main IO Interactive branch in Copenhagen are watching over a completely different game, not a new Hitman or add-on to Hitman 2. But don't count on the return of any of the older franchises like Freedom Fighters or Kane & Lynch. The dev did not want to reveal too much, but he made it clear that the secret project is supposed to be something completely new. Apparently, it is still at a very early stage of development. However, it doesn't seem to prevent the Danes from considering new ideas, since Abrak mentions "potential new franchise". Anyway, we won't be able to see the new work of IO Interactive anytime soon.
