Hideo Kojima Admits He Doesn't Quite Get Death Stranding Himself
Death Stranding is a production that since the announcement raises more questions than answers. As it turns out, even the creator of the title - Hideo Kojima - does not fully understand what his work actually is.
Death Stranding is one of the most mysterious upcoming games. Most of the trailers and gameplays shown so far raise more questions than answers (most of the information was revealed by the removed introduction video that leaked to the web some time ago). As it turns out, even the creator of the game - Hideo Kojima - does not quite know what Death Stranding is.
During an interview with Financial Times, Hideo Kojima admitted that he does not quite understand what Death Stranding is all about. The game is designed to create a new genre. Instead of using formulas known from other titles, he decided to create something that wasn't on the market before.
"Death Stranding… even now, I don’t understand the game. Its world view, gameplay, they are all new. My mission is to create a genre that does not currently exist, and which takes everyone by surprise. There is, naturally, a risk in that…"
By the way, Kojima also referred to the artistry in games. He stated that in the case of this medium, abstract solutions do not work. Instead, the game must be interactive and the objects must perform the same functions as in reality.
"If you take something that looks like a banana and give it the title ‘apple’, that works as art. But it doesn’t apply to games. We are making things that are interactive. A banana has to be edible after you peel the skin. Cars have to be drivable. For games to be interactive and to deliver the enjoyment, there has to be a reality where there are lots of people backstage making it all happen."
Death Stranding will be released on November 8, 2019 on PlayStation 4.
