UPDATE

Yesterday, there was a complete turnaround in player reviews for Helldivers 2 on Steam. A total of 207,000 positive reviews have arrived, as a result of which the overall game rating has returned to the level of "mostly positive" (currently 70% of reviews are in favor). The gaming community celebrated this event as a major triumph for the helldivers.

Original news (May 6)

Last week, there was a lot of controversy surrounding the change that was to be introduced in Helldivers 2. Fans were unhappy that they would have to link their Steam accounts with PlayStation Network profiles. The community backlash was so significant that it resulted in Helldivers 2 being inundated with numerous negative reviews on Valve's platform. Over 300,000 negative opinions have been issued since May 3rd when the news about the obligation to link accounts was published.

As you know, due to such a bad reception of the upcoming change by the community, Sony decided to withdraw from its decision. This reassured fans and led to the halt of the so-called "review bombing" of the game. The Defenders of Super Earth decided to embark on an important mission themselves to bring Helldivers 2's reviews up to par. This initiative is moving in the right direction.

  1. Today, around 110,000 positive reviews of Arrowhead Studio's game were posted on Steam. Altogether, 43% of the reviews are currently negative (out of over 570 thousand).
  2. Valve's platform still shows that recent reviews are "mostly negative," but it's highly likely that this will soon change to "mostly positive" - the threshold on Steam starts at 70% positive reviews.

Let's remind that fans were unhappy about being required to link their Steam account to their PSN profile, mainly due to concerns about the safety of their data and the fact that Sony's service isn't available in many countries and regions.
