Heavily Criticized MMORPG Returns from Beyond the Grave, But We'll Have to Pay for It. Wayfinder Will Remove Microtransactions and Other Annoyances

After parting ways with Digital Extremes and deciding to temporarily halt the sale of the MMORPG Wayfinder, Airship Syndicate revealed that the game will soon return in a form very different from the original project. According to the information from the devs, the game will offer a lot more than just an online mode and will require payment to access.

Developers known for such games as Darksiders Genesis, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, and Battle Chasers: Nightwar, stated that after the wave of criticism that flooded the game after its release in early access in 2023, they decided to transform it into a single-player adventure (with an optional co-op mode for four people), free from microtransactions.

Airship Syndicate assures that it understands the extent of the changes but has made the decision to ensure that the title "will be alive forever in a sustainable way."

The developers promise significant changes to the equipment systems, collectible items, cosmetics, and the way new characters are unlocked (eliminating the so-called grind). Furthermore, players will have four difficulty levels to choose from and much more.

The Echoes update is set to be released on Steam on May 31, but only those who bought the original game's Founder's Pack will have access to download it. The new-old title will be released for early access on PC on June 11 (with a slightly later release on consoles) for a price of $24.99. The devs emphasize that the value of Wayfinder: Echoes will increase after the premiere of version 1.0, which will take place at the end of this year on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.

Speaking of Sony consoles, it's worth mentioning that the developers have decided to stop supporting the PS4 version. People who have this opportunity will receive a free update of the game to the dedicated PS5 version. Airship Syndicate also implied that without these changes, the game would soon be completely killed off. If the new concept is well received, the devs plan to add a ton of new content.
