HBO's The Last of Us Will Use Dialogue Lines From the Game, but Change the Story
The long-awaited HBO series based on The Last of Us is taking shape. It is already known that the creators will transfer many threads from Naughty Dog's game to the screen. What's interesting, original dialogues from the game will be recreated.
- HBO's upcoming The Last of Us, based on the game by Naughty Dog, won't be a one 100% faithful adaptation, but the creators say they'll carry over a lot of themes from the original;
- The TV series will feature original dialogue lines from the game, written by Neil Druckmann;
- The main characters from The Last of Us will be played by actors known from Game of Thrones. Joel is played by Pedro Pascal, while the rebellious Ellie is played by Bella Ramsey.
The Last of Us, based on the iconic game by Naughty Dog, is aiming to surprise fans of the series, who are currently eagerly awaiting the first trailer. The producers are very cautious about it, as evidenced by the scarce information reaching the media. However, we already know something about the plot and the cast. In a short interview for IGN, writer Neil Druckmann revealed that the dialogues from the game will be transferred to the screen almost without any changes, as well as many threads known from the original.
"Things sometimes stay pretty close. It’s funny to see my dialogue there from the games in HBO scripts. And sometimes they deviate greatly to much better effect because we are dealing with a different medium."
Initially, there was talk that The Last of Us was going to be a loose adaptation. It turns out that in the end the creators decided not to deviate too much from the original and they will make sure that as many elements of the plot from the first installment of the game will hit the screens as possible. And at the same time, the production is supposed to focus on "the philosophical foundations of the story".
Joel and Ellie will be played by actors known from HBO's hit Game of Thrones, namely Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. However, it is still unknown how many episodes the first season of The Last of Us will consist of. Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann announced some time ago that the series will feature scenes that tie the two installments together, which is understood by many fans that there will be a second season.
