Hardcore Diablo 4 Player Learns Hard Way Not to Blindly Click on Portals

Some hate them wholeheartedly, while others mindlessly jump into them. Either way, with portals we should always be careful.

Diablo 4, as a hack'n'slash, allows the player to create multiple characters and adjust the difficulty level for them. In most cases, death (which contrary to appearances isn't difficult to achieve) results in being sent back to the last checkpoint and damage to the equipment - however, it is different in hardcore mode, where each death is permanent.

It's worth remembering that opponents are not the only threat lurking in the game world. The second player can be equally dangerous.

Trade that didn't go through

The victim of a cunning trick was a Reddit user known as EfficientChair4487, who some time ago created his first hardcore character, a barbarian. Unfortunately, for him, he bid farewell to his character upon reaching level 93 – all due to greedy players and their portals.

The history starts off innocently. The author of the post attempted to strike a deal with another player, who invited him to join a trading group and then opened a portal leading to his world. As you can guess, in reality, the barbarian moved to the Akhai Prairie location, where the "trader" - thanks to the allowed PvP mode - quickly annihilated his victim.

EfficientChair fell victim to a trick as old as time. TPPK, which stands for Town Portal Player Kill, involves luring the player into a portal and then killing them using the element of surprise. The trap was first introduced in Diablo 2 and persists in hardcore modes - the player of the barbarian, as a beginner, might not have known this.

1 rule of HC - NEVER EVER TRUST ANYONE.

As scummy as this is, this is a well known about griefing tactic on HC (...). The only thing you can do is take this loss as a learning exercise.

We hope this post will serve as a warning to you as well – never click on suspicious portals while playing on the highest difficulty level in Diablo 4. As for the game itself, we will soon see the first expansion titled Vessel of Hatred. Have you watched its latest trailer?
