Half-Life: Alyx Becomes the Most Popular VR Game in Steam's History
Half-Life: Alyx set a new activity record for VR games on Steam, achieving a score almost five times higher than the previous leader in this category.
On Monday evening, Half-Life: Alyx launched on Steam. It turns out that the game instantly became the biggest VR hit in Steam's history. The game set an activity record of 42 858 people playing at the same time. So far, the leader in the category of VR games was Boneworks with the result of 8717 players simultaneously.
Given that Half-Life: Alyx requires VR goggles, the popularity of the game is impressive. Most players don't have such equipment, so it's no surprise that on the day of the release about 300 thousand people followed streams from the game on Twitch.
So far, Valve has not revealed the sales results of Half-Life: Alyx. According to estimates of the paid version of Steam Spy, the game has been bought by 400 thousand people. This fits earlier reports of 300,000 pre-orders.
