The creators of the hit Marvel's Spider-Man series are standing at the threshold of the biggest challenge in the company's history. The developers fell victim to a hacking attack that led to the leak of not only employees' personal data, but also but also information and multimedia material from Marvel's Wolverine.

According to Cyber Daily, a group calling itself Rhysida is behind the ransomware attack. As proof that this is not a bluff, the cybercriminals have released screenshots of illegally obtained data. Among them were passport scans of current and former Insomniac Games employees, internal emails and signed confidential contracts. Hackers also came into possession of the personal data of Yuri Lowenthal, who lent his voice to Peter Parker in Insomniac's games..

According to reports from journalists, the hackers gave Insomniac Games seven days to respond. After that time, all the stolen data is expected to see the light of day. In addition Rhysida has put the files up for auction. The asking price is 50 bitcoin, or about $2 million.

"With only 7 days to go, take the opportunity to bid on exclusive, unique and impressive data. Open your wallets and get ready to buy exclusive data. We sell only to one hand, no resale, you will be the sole owner!," reads the content of the announcement.

At the time of writing this news, Insomniac Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment have not taken an official position on the matter.
