Google Stadia in Trouble - Change of Name and Strategy
Google Stadia is in trouble. One is tempted to say that they are quite large, but the company from Mountain View still sticks to its project.
After almost a year has passed, we can say that Google Stadia is not doing so well after all. In the latest report from Business Insider we can find quite devastating information about Stadia's condition and what we can expect from the service in the future.
One word - degradation
This is definitely how we can summarize Google's approach to its cloud gaming project. As both former and current employees of the company agree, only 20% of the company's attention is focused on further development of the platform.
- The situation is influenced by, among others, recent takeovers in the video game industry.
- They will make it much more difficult for Google to establish partnerships with creators and expand Stadia's library.
- The company's decision last year to close down its internal development studios has also not gone unnoticed.
- The company has also decided to back off the offensive on negotiations to bring as many AAA titles to its service as possible.
- Google is also suffering from player "retention," which according to one BI insider has been haunting the platform since 2020.
- There has also been a change in the project's management hierarchy, which, according to Business Insider, is a sign of Stadia's degradation.
Collapse is still a long way off
While the situation in the ranks of the team responsible for Google Stadia does not bode well, the platform is still holding on to life.
- In order to get Stadia out of trouble, the Mountain View giant has decided to rename the project Google Stream.
- What's more the old-new service will now be made available to game developers (although in the case of the latter, however, the cooperation may not work out).
- Google's partner also remains Peleton, which, with the support of Google Stream, enables us to participate in online training courses.
- Patrick Seybold, a spokesman for the company, also commented on the situation of Google's service.
"We will not comment on any rumors or speculation regarding other industry partners, although we remain focused on bringing games to Stadia in 2022. There are currently over 200 titles available, and we expect to add over 100 more games to the platform this year. We also have 50 productions available to pick up as part of Stadia Pro."
What next for Google Stadia?
The service from Google has to given one thing - it is really good. However, the so-called cloud gaming market is becoming increasingly popular and grows quite rapidly, which in the face of current problems may prove fatal for the Stadia project.
