Thief Fans Celebrate; Gloomwood Now Available on Steam
Steam users finally got Gloomwood, the immersive sim, whose developers modeled it on the Thief series.
The early version of Gloomwood, a game inspired by the first two installments of the Thief series has debuted in Steam Early Access. The title is a stealth game with survival horror elements, developed by Dillon Rogers and David Szymanski.
- The game is only available on PC.
- Currently, it can be purchased 10% off to celebrate the release - it will increase back to full price after September 12.
- The authors predict that the game will spend one or two years in early access, following the example of other games released by New Blood Interactive, such as Dusk or Ultrakill.
- Version 1.0 will cost 50% more than the Early Access edition.
- The game is selling very well. At the time of writing this news, it is the biggest bestseller among games on Steam. Only Steam Deck generates more sales revenue.
Picking up the game
In its current state Gloomwood offers the initial stages of the campaign, enabling us to explore a fishing port, caves, mines and a lighthouse. It provided about 3-4 hours of play.
So the content of the early version is not particularly abundant, but the game has nevertheless met with a warm reception. At the time of writing, 97% of user reviews on Steam praise the title..
Players like the atmosphere and gameplay mechanics, which do not just copy solutions from Thief, but add a lot of new elements. The main criticism is the length of the Early Access version.
Some people jokingly complain that the first safe encountered in the game can not be opened with the code 451. This is an easter egg present in most games inspired by the achievements of the now-defunct studio Looking Glass, which appeared in such titles as BioShock, Prey, Tacoma, Infra, Alien: Isolation, Firewatch, Deathloop or all the installments of Deus Ex.
