Sony continues their policy to release PlayStation exclusive games on PC to dismay of some, so called, fans. The latest production from SIE’s portfolio that made its way to computers is Ghost of Tsushima. The port has been prepared by renown Nixxes studio, which unfortunately doesn’t mean that it is flawless. Actually, far from it, as many players complain about audio, inability to start a new game, crashes, and above all, issues with logging into PSN, which Sony tried to push so hard with Helldivers 2. To those myriad of problems joins yet another which makes it very hard to use standoff functionality in game. Let’s see if anything can be done about it.

Workaround for standoff problems in Ghost of Tsushima

If you would like to be a nice samurai who has bushido code in high regard, proper standoff is more than necessary. However, it poses a problem in the freshly ported version of Ghost of Tsushima on PC. Many noble men would like to face their opponents in an honourable duel, yet after initiating it, holding a button (whether that is keyboard and mouse or controller) doesn’t work, leaving Jin open for hits.

The history of this issue traces back even to the PlayStation release of the game. However, some fans who have experience with the title from the times of console release are not convinced that it is a bug. They have cleared out that it is a mechanic of the game that requires you to press the button just at the right time when the prompt appears. Pressing it too early or too late will result in a failed attempt leading to leaving the protagonist vulnerable.

However, while the above may be true for many new players, the situation seems to be more complicated. If skills were the only issue, workarounds would not be able to help some fans, and they do. So, if you are not convinced by this explanation, there might be a few things that can be done:

  1. There are voices that turning on accessibility settings solve the problem.
  2. Some fans claim that capping the game on 60 fps alleviates the issue.
  3. You can try remapping buttons, as it also has a chance of making things better.
  4. Make sure that Steam Input is enabled, and you use the official Sucker Punch controller layout.

A situation like this would be justifiable if the game was released in Early Access, yet we expect a lot more from full priced AAA game. Let’s hope that Nixxes will address the complaints raised by players quickly to enjoy Jin Sakai’s adventure on the island of Tsushima.
