Genshin Impact Patch 2.1 Brought the Devs Over $150 Million in a Week
Within a week after release, patch 2.1 for Genshin Impact brought in over $150 million in revenue for miHoYo. Despite the developers' efforts, more information about update 2.2 has leaked online.
The pace at which miHoYo is releasing updates for Genshin Impact is admirable. After the massive patch 2.0 that was released in late July, patch 2.1 was announced; it launched - as planned - on September 1. Just seven days after the release, the Chinese studio was able to boast revenues of USD 151 million. According to Sensor Tower, which published this data, this is almost four times more than the USD 31 million generated by the game in the last week of August. The stats are illustrated by the chart below.
The comparison is impressive, but it should be noted that the period taken into account - from August 25 to 31 - fell on the last days of availability of the banner that enabled players to draw a five-star character Yoimiya (visible at the beginning of this message). As she was available from the 10th of the month, it is reasonable to assume that most people interested in her - especially those who engage in microtransactions - already had her in their collection. Furthermore, With Patch 2.1 - to celebrate the first birthday of Genshin Impact - the purchase bonuses have been reset. What it means is that if we want to purchase the game's primogem currency for cash, with the first transaction we'll once again get a doubled amount. This could further encourage fans to reach for their wallets in the first days of the new month.
If this keeps up, Genshin Impact, which back in March was hailed as the fastest-grossing mobile game in history, won't live to see a worthy rival in terms of generated revenue anytime soon. The more so because miHoYo is still developing the title vigorously. Despite the strenuous efforts of the devs, first information about the patch 2.2 surfaced on the web. It will add, among others, Tsurumi Island, another five-star character, Yae Miko, as well as new monsters: riftstalker whelp and hound. The update is rumored to launch on October 12.
