Genshin Impact Devs Caved in to Player Demands? Additional Rewards Prepared
It looks like miHoYo caved in under community pressure and started sending extra rewards to players in celebration of the ongoing anniversary event. In addition, we learned when the official announcement of patch 2.2 will take place.
The first birthday of the free-to-play game Genshin Impact runs in the shadow of controversy. First, the community "only" complained about the unsatisfactory rewards, and then some of its members conducted a review bombing of the mobile version of the game available in the Google Play store (i.e. lowered its rating). Now it seems that their actions brought the desired effect, because miHoYo, the responsible for Genshin Impact began sending users additional gifts. For now, it's just 400 primogems (the game's currency) and a wing skin (as well as a thank you for your support) - not the coveted five-star characters - but the message announcing the granting of these items states that the gifts will be given out for a total of four days.
The situation is so bizarre that at the moment it's impossible to say for sure whether the creators planned such a move from the beginning, or - which many point to - simply succumbed to community pressure. Partial answer to this question will be known when the next gifts are revealed. If a five-star character appears among them, players will undoubtedly become convinced that their rebellion mattered. Another argument for this hypothesis could be that the aforementioned wing skin was supposed to be a paid item, but was made available for free. Could it be that the plans simply changed? Or maybe the developers had to change them when Genshin Impact's score on Google Play ended up in the basement?
What hasn't changed is the schedule for further development of the game. Rumors suggested that the content of patch 2.2 (including Tsurumi Island, another five-star character, Yae Miko, and new monsters: Riftstalker Whelp and Hound) will be introduced in Genshin Impact on October 12, and all indications are that this will indeed be the case. In fact, miHoYo has announced a show this Sunday where the first details about the upcoming update will be presented (see graphic above). Its release date will probably also be confirmed. The stream will start at 5 AM PT.
