Game Informer Is Going Out of Business. America's Oldest Video Game Magazine Closing After 33 Years
The legendary U.S. video game magazine, Game Informer, is set to close after 33 years.
The ongoing crisis in the industry affects not only developers. Today we received news that after 33 years, the American magazine Game Informer will soon be ending its operations.
According to Kotaku, the decision to close the cult magazine was communicated to the company's employees this morning, during a special meeting called by representatives of GameStop, the parent company of Game Informer. The end of activity applies to both the print magazine and the editorial website, with immediate effect in the latter case.
The employees of Game Informer posted a terse farewell on the internet and their social media (below), but they didn't provide the reasons for the closure of the magazine. We can only assume that this decision was dictated by economic reasons.
After 33 thrilling years of bringing you the latest news, reviews, and insights from the ever-evolving world of gaming, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the closer of Game Informer.
From the early days of pixelated adventures to today's immersive virtual realms, we've been honored to share this incredible journey with you, our loyal readers. While our presses may stop, the passion for gaming that we've cultivated together will continue to live on.
"Thank you for being part of our epic quest, and may your own gaming adventures never end," reads the official statement from the Game Informer editorial team.
Game Informer was the longest-running video game magazine in the United States. Before this cult magazine finally comes to an end, there will be one more issue, number 367, in which the forefront is devoted to the game Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
