Future of System Shock - Tencent Will Fund Third Game
OtherSide Entertainment has officially confirmed that the development of System Shock brand will take place with the support of Tencent. Representatives of the studio believe that the Chinese company will bring the franchise to „new heights”.
After more than half a year of silence, OtherSide Entertainment's social media accounts finally revived and confirmed the theories from a few days ago. They announced that Tencent will in fact finance further development of the System Shock series, especially its third part, which is currently under development.
Representatives of OtherSide Entertainment do not hide their satisfaction with the contract. According to them, as an independent studio, they have had huge problems with dealing with such a large project as System Shock 3. This is confirmed by the problems this team has had to face in recent months. After breaking off cooperation with Swedish coompany Starbreeze, they got into financial difficulties, which resulted in numerous layoffs. The studio believes that with Tencent's money, as well as his "ability and experience as a leading gaming company", they will not only be able to complete System Shock 3, but also take the whole franchise "to new heights". We should find out whether this will actually happen in the near future.
However, this deal does not mean that Tencent completely takes over IP rights for System Shock. These are still owned by Nightdive, which only makes them available to OtherSide Entertainment. This was announced on Twitter by Stephen Kick, the company's CEO.
