Former WoW Dev Suggests Big Change in WoW Classic
Blizzard Entertainment is most likely preparing World of Warcraft Classic Plus, a combination of the atmosphere and mechanics of WoW Classic with content from later expansions.
There are many indications that Blizzard Entertainment may be preparing a new version of World of Warcraft, which would develop World of Warcraft Classic in an interesting direction.
- First popular streamer MrGM reported that Blizzard had made modifications to the game's code that herald big changes.
- In response, Brian Birmingham, who until recently served as one of the two main developers overseeing the development of World of Warcraft, stated that an extremely talented team is working on the project and players should be pleased with the outcome.
- Asked if it was specifically about Classic Plus, Birmingham replied that officially he can neither confirm nor deny, but the idea of such a project has always appealed to him.
Classic Plus very likely
Rumors about World of Warcraft Classic Plus have been circulating for quite some time. The latest reports seem to confirm that something is afoot. It is speculated that the project will combine the visual style and gameplay of WoW Classic with elements and features taken from later expansions, which were released after Wrath of the Lich King (the Classic edition of this expansion was released last year).
In practice World of Warcraft Classic Plus would be a hybrid of both incarnations of WoW, combining their best features.
Rise of World of Warcraft Classic Plus seems a natural step for Blizzard. WoW Classic turned out to be a huge success, but this version no longer has a way to develop without abandoning the old-school solutions that players loved the project for. Developing a hybrid that would combine the old mechanics and atmosphere with new content would be an ideal solution to this problem.
