For 20 Years It Was Hidden Who Dubbed One of MGS3 Key Characters. Long-Held Secret Finally Unveiled
The upcoming remake of the third Metal Gear Solid has cleared up a mystery from twenty years ago.
In May, the rumors that had been circulating for weeks were confirmed, as if Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater had received its remake. Konami Studio shared the first announcement of the game during this year's PlayStation Showcase, giving the refreshed third installment the name Delta referring to the changes.
This presents the studio with a great chance to revive the stealth franchise and reveal previously undisclosed facts. One of them is revealing the identity of the actress playing the character of EVA.
A story straight out of a fairy tale
Undoubtedly, one of the most important characters in the plot of MGS3 is EVA, the agent who supports the main character in operation "Snake Eater." She was voiced by an anonymous actress using the pseudonym Suzetta Minet, whose real identity has remained hidden for the past 20 years.
In the third episode of the commemorative "Legacy Series," host David Hayter revealed that Jodi Benson took on the role of EVA. We are talking about an actress known for roles such as Ariel in the original Little Mermaid or Barbie in Pixar's Toy Story - so it must be admitted that Metal Gear Solid differs slightly from her previous portfolio.
Benson's decision was influenced by the dubbing director, who was influenced by the actress's previous projects, which were largely aimed at children. Interestingly enough, her dog served as the inspiration for her pseudonym.
Our director, she sat down with me and she's was like, 'Maybe we need to change your name.' So she asked me, 'What was your dog's name growing up?' and I said, 'Suzette Monet.' So she's like, 'You know what?' Let's build on that. How about Suzetta? How about instead of Monet, like the artist, we'll do Minet?
-- Jodi Benson
As you can see, a small lie remained hidden for two decades, and Jodi Benson's reputation, known for films for young audiences, stayed flawless. Do you hear a similarity to Ariel in EVA's voice?
