Foldable Huawei Mate X Is Supposed to Cost as Much as 2229€
Without a doubt, 2019 can already be declared the year of folding smartphones. Nowadays, every leading manufacturer wants to have such a device in their offer. After weeks of rumours, Huawei Mate X has been officialy revealed.
The new model is a demonstration of ultimate power - Huawei wants to show the competition its true manufacturing power. The fact of having a foldable screen is one thing, because we are dealing with a really powerful device, which from the very beginning was designed with the idea of operating 5G networks in mind.
However, it is not the phone specification that arouses the greatest interest. Kirin 980 - the central chip of the device - well known by users from the Mate 20 Pro, and the use of Balong 5000 modem (which will allow to download data at a speed of 4.6 Gbp/s) is unlikely to cause such curiosity as the main novelty - folding screen.
Phone manufacturers finally had to come up with something new to interest consumers. The introduction of more powerful devices with a larger and larger screen has stopped impressing anyone. Even the release of "frameless screens" on the market did not cause any major revolution. This season, however, is dominated by folding display screens, which allow you to transform your smartphone into a tablet.
As everyone expected, the biggest novelty in the device is the screen. In phone mode, you will be able to use the 6.6-inch display, and when unfolded, you will be able to use up to 8 inches. An additional advantage is undoubtedly the fact that the Mate X uses a completely different solution than Samsung. Huawei has created a foldable screen on the exterior part. Thanks to that we will also find a display on the back of the device, which we will use e.g. to make a selfie. It should be noted that despite this, the screen will be of quite good quality - the OLED FullView panel will provide a resolution of 2480 x 2200 pixels in tablet mode and 2480 x 1148 pixels in smartphone mode.
Undoubtedly, the biggest disadvantage of the device is its price. All those who expected an interesting alternative to Galaxy Fold will enjoy the taste, because Mate X is even more expensive. The cheapest variant with 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of memory will cost 2299 EUR. For comparison, a competitive phone from Samsung will cost EUR 2,000.
The quality of workmanship of the smartphone is also a cause for some concern. Huawei wanted to perform as good as possible during the presentation, showing only the strongest features of Mate X. President Richard Yu praised the company's patented hinge, which will allow the model to be completely unfolded, resulting in a fully flat screen. However, while watching the video recording from the show, you can see that the device sometimes had problems with reading the intentions of the user.
The battery capacity is also questionable. For such a complex device, a battery with a capacity of only 4500 mAh was used. Is it enough to support an 8-inch tablet that will also be used as a phone? Time will show.... Richard Yu assured that consumers shouldn't worry about and the battery used that will last for a long time. What was missing, however, were the details in the form of reliable numbers. There is no information about the cameras used. It is known that they will be available... but what components are being used - this is a mystery for now.
The manufacturer assumes that the sale of the device will start in mid-2019. We assume that the company provide more details about the Mate X specifications by then.
