First Reviews: Mafia Definitive Edition - More of That Please

The biggest gaming websites have released their opinions about the Mafia remake. Fans of the original shouldn't be disappointed, the refreshed title has gathered a lot of enthusiastic reviews.

Who would dare to criticize a game about gangsters?
IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Reviews of the remastered edition of the first Mafia have appeared online;
  • Most of the opinions are very positive, pointing out mostly the thrilling plot and deep characters;
  • However, the game is not perfect on sandboxing field and has a lot of technical issues in general.

Hangar 13 met with fierce criticism after the release of the third Mafia. Developers were particularly criticized for technical shortcomings, as well as the repetitive and monotonous gameplay structure. Then the developers released a slightly refreshed version of the game, at the same time announcing a full-fledged remake of Mafia from 2002 - a complete graphic and mechanical overhaul. Admittedly, fans expressed a lot of doubts, but the reviews (average 78 points out of 100 on Metacritic, PC platform) calm down - it's really good. We also appreciated the game.

Critics praise above all the very faithful reproduction of the atmosphere of the original, and call the title one of the best narrative-focused games of the year. We follow the fate of the main characters with curiosity, and the completion of each mission is expected to bring a lot of emotion. Moreover, the whole thing boasts a new, impressive audiovisual layer, which makes the remake of Mafia a unique experience.

However, one cannot ignore the slightly less positive opinions, pointing out certain shortcomings of the work. Most of them relate mainly to the mass of bugs and random performance drops. At some moments the game is simply bad when it comes to technical aspects. In addition, there is a lack of any innovations, and the title is moderately good as a sandbox if we compare it to Watch Dogs or Grand Theft Auto V. The archaic and repetitive combat system is also striking.

You will be able to see the truth of these theses tomorrow, on September 25. That's when Mafia: Definitive Edition will be available to play on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Make sure you get your gangster jobs done, but remember that loyalty is what counts.
