First Reviews: GeForce RTX 3060 Ti - More Than RTX 2080 Super for Price of RTX 2060 Super
Reviews of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GPU have appeared online. This is the fourth chipset in the Ampere family to succeed the RTX 2060 Super. How does its performance compare to the RTX 2080 Super, which was supposed to be faster?
Benchmarks of Nvidia's Ampere family card GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, which, according to various leaks, was supposed to have higher performance than GeForce RTX 2080 Super, appeared on the web. Its specs are slightly weaker than that of GeForce RTX 3070 released in late October, so it was expected to perform slightly worse in games. Is that what happened? You will find the answer to this question in the reviews published today on various websites. The opinions of selected experts together with benchmark results are presented below.
GeForce RTX 3060 Ti - selected benchmarks
TechPowerUp
"Averaged over our test suite at 1440p resolution, we find that the RTX 3060 Ti beats the RTX 2080 Super by 3%, which makes it only 12% slower than the RTX 2080 Ti that did cost a fortune not long ago. The performance uplift over the RTX 2060 is a staggering 58%, 38% more than the RTX 2060 Super. The RTX 3060 Ti sits right in the middle of the AMD competition—the RX 5700 XT is 21% behind the RTX 3060 Ti and the RX 6800 is 20% faster, which suggests we'll soon see an RX 6700 Series that will go head-to-head with the RTX 3060 Ti," is the conclusion reached by the author of the benchmark for TechPowerUp.

"Ultimately, everything and anything it's all about gaming price, performance, and, of course, rendering quality. The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti is a product that meets all these factors suitably; while we do feel the RTX 3070 offers oomph for money, the RTX 3060 Ti simply more reachable for a bigger crowd with a more normalized wallet. This card can still run games at 4K but not with raytracing for sure; it will serve you well at WQHD and Full HD. The easy comparative product would be RTX 2080 SUPER and often even close to that RTX 2080 Ti," reads the summary of Guru3D review.
Tom's Hardware
"AMD doesn't have a viable alternative to the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti at the $400 price point yet, so for now, this is the undisputed upper mainstream champion. Some might say $400 isn't really a mainstream GPU, but given the sales of previous-gen GTX 1070 and RTX 2060 / 2060 Super cards, there are clearly plenty of people willing to spend that much money on a graphics card. And to be clear, this is a great card for that price. he RTX 3060 Ti is about 35-40 percent faster than the previous-gen 2060 Super and about 30 percent faster than AMD's RX 5700 XT — and that's without even getting into ray tracing or DLSS support. In ray tracing games, the 3060 Ti lead grows to 40-45 percent over the 2060 Super, and AMD's RX 5000 series doesn't even have the option to try and run DXR games. Even against AMD's new RX 6800, though, the RTX 3060 Ti delivers better overall DXR performance — and can improve by around 30 percent on average for games that support DLSS, using DLSS Quality mode," we read in Tom's Hardware's review.
Is GeForce RTX 3060 Ti a great GPU for a good price?
Released in October, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 offered performance equivalent to the flagship model of the previous generation - GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. The suggested price was $399, but due to availability problems, it is practically impossible to buy it for such amount of money. GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, which differs slightly in the specs from RTX 3070, was supposed to be faster than GeForce RTX 2080 Super and actually proved to be slightly better. Compared to RTX 3070, we received a card with an average performance lower by several percent, with slightly lower power consumption (200 W vs. 220 W), and a suggested price appropriate to this difference. RTX 3060 Ti can be a tasty morsel. After all, we get the performance of RTX 2080 Super, but for the price of RTX 2060 Super -the card works very well in Full HD and 1440p resolutions, and in many previous games it can even hold its ground in 4K. Let's not forget about a significant increase in ray-tracing performance compared to the previous generation (Turing), which is clearly visible in the graphs above.
RTX 3060 Ti is unrivalled in its class, but AMD has not yet responded to Nvidia's cheaper models. Only Radeons RX 6700 XT and RX 6700 planned for January are to offer similar performance to RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 Ti. Radeon RX 6800 is faster than both aforementioned GeForce models (not necessarily when ray-tracing is enabled), but also - more expensive. The beginning of 2021 promises to be an incredibly even start between AMD and Nvidia.
In the new year, the availability of all new GPUs should gradually improve. AMD announced that within two months the prices of RX 6800 should normalize; Nvidia, on the other hand, is not so specific in its predictions. The availability of GeForce RTX 3060 Ti in stores should be at the level of RTX 3070, so the cards will be easier to buy than RTX 3080. The suggested price has been set at $399 in the case of Founders Edition. Unfortunately, only theoretically - in the coming weeks we should still expect big problems with buying it for suggested price...
GeForce RTX 3060 Ti will launch tomorrow, on December 2. In addition to the Founders Edition, the market will also see custom designs from leading manufacturers such as Asus, MSI, and Gigabyte. This is the last model from the Nvidia Ampere family to be sold this year.
