First Reviews: DMC 5 Special Edition - Successful Next-gen Debut

Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition is here. The game launched on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S and collects very good reviews.

Today Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition, an improved version of last year's great hack'n'slash game, debuted on the market . The game is available on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. A ton of reviews has already appeared on the web, and they show that Dante and the crew have made a successful debut on the new generation.

Sample review scores of DMC5: Special Edition

The PS5 version has an average rating of 87% on Metacritic, the XSX release has too few notes. For comparison, the original DMC5 on PS4 boasts an 88% rating. Here are some sample scores:

  1. Saudi Gamer - 10/10
  2. Heavy - 9.8/10
  3. The Games Machine - 9.2/10
  4. PSX Brasil - 90/100
  5. PlayStation Universe - 9/10
  6. Press Start - 9/10
  7. TheSixthAxis - 9/10
  8. GamingTrend - 90/100
  9. GameSkinny - 9/10 stars
  10. GameSpew - 9/10
  11. Game Informer - 8.5/10
  12. Spaziogames - 8.5/10
  13. Gameblog - 8/10
  14. Eurogamer Italy - 8/10
  15. Stevivor - 7/10

As you can see, most reviews are very positive. Last year's standard edition was also highly rated, and Special Edition is considered the best version of this hit, offering improved graphics and interesting new content.

A separate question is whether the new edition is a notable purchase for the owners of the original. The biggest novelty is the playable Vergil, which will appear in the basic DMC5 next month as a paid DLC. However, there are no plans to make Turbo and Dark Knight Mode available on PC, Xbox One and PS4. PC players shouldn't also expect the introduction of ray-tracing support.

Finally, if we are interested in the game, we recommend watching the video prepared by Digital Foundry, which compares the graphics of the PS5 and Xbox Series X releases.
