Titles criticized in some texts and praised in others are not rare, but usually we deal only with a few extreme reviews. Meanwhile, Biomutant seems to have divided the industry in two, as the game received both a lot of very high marks, as well as quite a few ratings below 6/10. This ultimately translated into an average of 63/100 (XONE version) to 68/100 (PC/PS4) from reviews gathered by Metacritic.

With such extreme reviews, it's hard to pinpoint what did and what didn't click in the title. The only consistently mentioned pro of Biomutant is the colorful world, which stands out against the typical, greyish visions of the post-apocalypse, although virtually all texts include some praises for the combat and the crafting system (albeit with some reservations here and there). It's a little easier to summarize the flaws, which mainly boil down to somewhat bland side quests and various elements that seem to have not been fully polished. Unfortunately, one of them is the technical layer of Biomutant, because in many texts there are complaints about various errors and - the worst - the game outright crashing. Perhaps the situation will be improved by patches.

Of course, there are many more mentioned pros and cons to Biomutant. However, it's difficult to unify the opinion of reviewers, since a significant number of texts that are extatic about the game (and even giving it as a candidate for the title of 'game of the year') is balanced by an equally large number of comments about 'wasted potential' and adding too many elements with poor effect. Perhaps the matter will be settled by the opinions of players, but - knowing life and typical internet 'reviews' - it may only serve to increase the split in ratings. Either way, devs at Experiment 101 seem to have gained a lot of fans (and anti-fans).
