Final Fantasy IX to be Adapted Into an Animated Kids Series

The French animation production company Cyber Group Studios announced today that in collaboration with Square Enix they will be producing a Final Fantasy IX animated series aimed at a younger audience.

Today it was announced that Final Fantasy IX, part of the beloved video game series, will become an animated series. Cyber Group Studios, the French company behind the upcoming series, revealed plans to work with Square Enix to make an animated Final Fantasy IX series aimed at families and children between the ages of 8 and 13.

While the series’ primary audience is expected to be children, fans of the Final Fantasy games are also expected to enjoy this adaptation. With Square Enix involved in production, the series will work hard to remain faithful to the source material.

With no real knowledge on what this series will look like yet, it’s just a matter of time until the studios can give us the first glimpse of the series through a trailer or some other form.

Cyber Group Studios has offices in France and the US, and are known internationally for their animated kids shows. The Studio also announced that they will be managing worldwide distribution and merchandising for the series.

Long time fans of the Final Fantasy video game series might not fit the exact demographic the show is aiming for, but at the very least this series should open up the world of Final Fantasy to a whole new audience.

Hopefully the show does take an older audience into account as well, the game this series was based on is over two decades old now. Long time fans of Final Fantasy IX simply are not kids anymore. But for now we will have to wait and see.

What do you think of this announcement? How do you think Final Fantasy IX will translate to a new medium? Leave a comment below letting us know your thoughts!
