Obsidian Cuts Off Speculation on New Vegas 2 for Fallout's 25th Anniversary
The Fallout series is celebrating its 25th birthday. On this occasion, Obsidian denied that it is currently working on Fallout: New Vegas 2.
Fallout: New Vegas 2 is one of the games that fans have been waiting for years to be announced. There have been regular rumors about the sequel to the 2010 RPG. Now, on the occasion of Fallout's 25th birthday, Obsidian Entertainment has decided to deny that it is currently working on the title. Admittedly, the studio didn't say so directly - but the allusion in the tweet is all too clear.
Obsidian explains that it currently has a lot on its plate. If one looks at the studio's plans, it's easy to find confirmation of this thesis. The developers are currently working on as much as three titles - Avowed, an RPG set in the Pillars of Eternity universe, the adventure game Pentiment and The Outer Worlds 2. It has also recently released the full version of the survival game Grounded.
Hopes of Fallout: New Vegas 2 being made became more real the moment Microsoft acquired ZeniMax Media Inc. With that, Obsidian (also bought out by the Redmond giant) and Bethesda were in the same hands. In such an arrangement, cooperation between the two companies seemed much more likely.
Of course, the discussed announcement does not completely derail the chances that Obsidian will one day make Fallout: New Vegas 2. It is possible that in the future - when the studio gets to grips with its current projects - it will actually work on the next installment of this iconic series. This may be suggested, among other things, by reports from Jeff Grubb, a journalist at VentureBeat and also one of the more reliable informants in the industry. They show that early this year, the first discussions about the title allegedly took place.
It is worth mentioning that the original Fallout: New Vegas is a spin-off of the series, and its development has just been entrusted to Obsidian. The game received an incredibly warm reception from fans and is considered by many to be the best 3D installment of the series.
