Fallout Creator Finally Revealed Who Started the Great War
We finally know who started the Great War that destroyed the world in the Fallout universe. This was revealed by the brand's co-creator, Tim Cain.
Co-creator of Fallout, Tim Cain, gave an interesting interview to the TKs-Mantis channel. In it, he finally answered the question that has been tourbling fans of the post-apocalyptic brand for decades - who was the first to launch the nukes, thus starting a war resulting in the destruction of human civilization.
- Tim Cain revealed that it was China that launched the nuclear missiles first, thus confirming the version repeated by the Enclave. The West responded with its own barrage, and a few hours later, ashes were left of the world as we knew it.
- China, however, did not decide to take this step without reason. In the universe of Fallout biological weapons were outlawed by international treaties. Nonetheless, the United States was conducting research on it, most notably FEV, or Forced Evolution Virus. China discovered this and demanded a halt to these projects. In response, the Americans merely moved the labs elsewhere. Angered by this, China responded by starting a nuclear war.
- China's response may seem extreme, but it should be remembered that FEV often resulted in a drastic reduction in the intelligence level of infected people (although there were exceptions, such as Champion and Fawkes). Also, the supermutants we encountered while playing the various installments of Fallout, are precisely the result of the Forced Evolution Virus. In the months leading up to the war, the international situation was very tense, so it is no special surprise that China reacted so drastically.
Recall that the Great War that destroyed the world of Fallout, broke out on October 23, 2077. To commemorate this date this past Monday a special feal was launched, in which all installments of the series, including DLCs, were discounted on PC and Xbox consoles. The offers will remain valid until October 31.
