24 Year Old F-16 Simulator Gets VR Support; Fans Ecstatic
After 24 years since its release, Falcon 4.0 may receive support for VR goggles. All thanks to an upcoming update to the BMS mod, the most important modification improving this flight simulator.
Falcon 4.0 is one of the best examples of how much the modding community can do. This ambitious flight simulator was released in a terrible condition and was saved by fans who have been improving the game with modifications for more than two decades now. Now all indications are that BMS, the most important project of its kind, will soon receive VR support.
- Creators of BMS have announced that they want to release update 4.37 by the end of this year
- For now, the devs aren't ready to reveal too many details, but on the forum one of them posted an interesting post with the repeated sentence "I will give you one clue." Visually, both versions of the sentence are arranged in a way that brings to mind VR goggles, where a separate version of the image is displayed for each eye.
- So fans quickly deduced that BMS version 4.37 will offer VR support, especially since the modification's authors have already promised in the past that support for this technology will be added to the mod at some point.
Recall that BMS is a giant mod improving literally every element of the game. The authors thoroughly refreshed the graphics, introducing modern visual effects and much more detailed textures and models. The physics engine has also been expanded and flight realism has been increased, additionally AI and dynamic campaign mechanics have been improved.
The creators have also added several new aircraft, although for now they are implemented in a much simpler way than the F-16. This, however, may soon change. This is because there are many indications, that the creators have finally managed to modify the engine of Falcon 4.0 so that it will become possible to fully reproduce other machines. However, we will probably wait much longer for these novelties than for VR.
