Today's State of Play was entirely devoted to Ghost of Tsushima. Sucker Punch presented a gameplay with a focus on combat and exploration in the team's latest game.
As announced on Tuesday, Sony Interactive Entertainment presented an extensive gameplay from Ghost of Tsushima. Today's State of Play episode devoted to the title focused on the most important elements of the game. We were able to take a look at how exploration and combat will look like in Sucker Punch's latest work. Before we invite you to the screening, we'd like to remind, that Ghost of Tsushima will be coming to PlayStation 4 on July 17.
Ghost of Tsushima - when Assassin's Creed meets The Witcher in Japan
The above gameplay starts with a show of world exploration without any markers. Yes, the game will enable us to mark interesting places on the map but to show us the distance to one of them, we will have to "ask" the game to do it by choosing the appropriate option on the d-pad. In this way, the devs will encourage us to carefully observe the surrounding area, which will enable us to discover other interesting locations; for example, rising smoke will show us where people need help. It is worth noting, that the hero's faithful steed will come to his call like Roach in the third installment of The Witcher, and we will gracefully climb to the hard-to-reach places in a manner worthy of an assassin.
The devs also enabled us to take a look at combat. Detection indicators, which look like pulled straigh from the latest installments of Assassin's Creed or Far Cry, will help us with stalthy elimination of adversaries. If we're spotted by enemies, there's nothing left to do but face them by taking the right combat stance, making fast, precise cuts, and performing rapid evasions and counterattacks. As befits a true "ghost", we will also take down our opponents from a safe distance, using a bow or kunais.
Akira Kurosawa's interactive film
The presentation was crowned by a shown of the photographic mode, which will enable us to create short films, and a monochromatic mode similar to the works of Akira Kurosawa.
