Starfield With Silent Protagonist; Everything we Know About Bethesda's New Game
We know more and more about the upcoming RPG Starfield. New information was shared by the creators, but some of them we can also draw from the gameplay video itself.
Starfield has been given a really extensive presentation at this year's Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase. We finally got to know some details about the mechanics present in the game and its overall character.
A lot of additional information was also shared by the developers after the presentation itself. Some interesting facts can be learned by deeply analyzing the published material.
Starfield as a huge open-world
Todd Howard provided some information that enables us to determine the size of Starfield. It looks like Bethesda is preparing a huge production.
- In the game we will be able to visit more than 100 star systems (including Alpha Centauri, Narion and our native Sol).
- Starfield will enable us to explore more than 1,000 planets (including Jemison, Gagrin and Anelson).
- We will be able to explore the surface of each celestial body at will. We won't have to limit ourselves to specific locations.
- On the visited planets we will find various cities and settlements (including New Atlantis and Akila City).
- In the game we will visit many different locations. Some of them are reminiscent of cyberpunk, others of dieselpunk, and in some of them we can find influences of architecture from the past decades of the 20th century.
- The game world will be alive. On our way we will encounter dozens of animals from other planets, both hostile and neutral to the player.
- We'll travel through space in a customized ship. The modification options are supposed to be very wide.
Starfield as a thoroughbred RPG
Bethesda's latest game boasts a huge world, but exploration is not everything. Starfield is a full-fledged RPG, which manifests itself in several facts we already know.
- The game will be driven by the story, focused on the search for mysterious artifacts by an organization called Constellation.
- The player will be able to influence the plot. It will depend on us how the various threads of the story will unfold.
- On our way we will encounter many NPCs, with whom we will be able to interact.
- In the game world there are also to be at least a few factions (including The Crimson Fleet, United Colonies, The Freestar Collective, The Enlightened). We will probably be able to ally with them.
- While creating a character, we'll be able adjust their appearance in an extensive wizard.
- We will also choose the history of our character, which will affect their initial skills (e.g. Diplomat, Gangster, Combat Medic). We can also give them special traits, which will have both positive and negative effects (eg. Extrovert, Empath, Unwanted Hero).
- We'll progress our character by investing our experience in various skills, which are divided into five categories: physical, social, combat, scientific and technical.
- Our character will be "mute." Dialogu lines wse select will not be dubbed. We won't see the protagonist's face during the conversations (they are played from a first-person perspective).
Starfield as a sandbox
Starfield also has many sandbox elements. It seems that nothing should stand in the way of putting the storyline aside and dealing with a whole bunch of other activities.
- In the game we will build our own bases on the surface of the planets. This system resembles the settlement building mechanics known from Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. However, it has some interesting improvements, such as the ability to build in overhead view mode.
- Bases will generate various resources and act as homes for NPCs. We will also be able to hire additional characters to help us manage the settlement.
- Starfield will give us many opportunities to make our own weapons, medicines and food and other items. The game will feature an extensive crafting system.
- While wandering through space, we'll come across many random events. We can be attacked by pirates who want to get rich at our expense.
- We'll also get many opportunities to trade. Stores can be found in cities, and probably on space stations.
- In the game we will be able to buy our own house, and even take a loan in one of the banks of the future.
- While wandering around the world, we'll encounter many opportunities to collect resources, which we'll then use for construction or crafting.
Taking into account all these elements, it should not surprise anyone that many people began to compare Starfield to No Man's Sky. Some point out also parallels (and divergences) with Star Citizen.
Whether these preditciont will turn out to be right, we will find out only in 2023, then Starfield will have debuted on PC and Xbox Series S/X consoles.
