Escape from Tarkov dev diary showing off incredibly detailed models
One of the greatest strengths of Escape from Tarkov is its graphics. In the latest dev diary the creators talk about how they make great-looking visual assets.
Escape from Tarkov continues to impress with every piece of news. Not long ago, in the first developer’s diary, people from Battlestate Games presented excellent weapons animations in their upcoming online shooter. Now, the second video shows off incredible 3D models. As befits an open world game set in a ruined metropolis, Escape from Tarkov is full of in various forms; abandoned buildings and cars; debris scattered across the streets etc. In this video, the developers discuss the details of this incredible work (English captions available):
Creating each in-game object requires several steps. In short, artists prepare a high poly model with all the minute detail, then bake maps and draw textures. The result is layered over a low poly, in-engine model. This way the developers manage to retain high quality objects without sacrificing the performance. What’s also interesting, is the fact that most objects are made of several modules. This is especially important for characters and weapons, which are highly customizable, thus come in hundreds of varieties.
There is still no news on when should alpha and beta tests start – “soon” is the word of the day. In the meantime, you may want to look out for new video materials that will reveal more about Escape from Tarkov.
