Epic Games and Apple Will Meet in Court Soon

The conflict between Epic Games and Apple will soon move to a California court. The companies will meet in court in May in order to clarify all past financial inaccuracies.

Yesterday, on March 1, 2021, an official organizational meeting was held between Apple and Epic Games, led by Judge Yvonne Gonzalez. It was to set the date and details of the court hearing of the two companies. We know that they will meet in two months, on May 6 (via MacRumors).

We can assume that this will be the beginning of the end of one of the more electrifying and covered corporate conflicts of recent months. Tim Sweeney's EG will try to prove to Apple that the 30% revenue share it charges on App Store is unfair and anti-competitive.

We more or less expect what the Californian company's line of defence will be, taking into account its recent actions (also in court) towards Valve. The data from Steam will probably help Apple to demonstrate some financial market "norms".

Judge Gonzalez is primarily interested in a face-to-face meeting due to the importance and complexity of the entire process. In addition, she is very concerned about the credibility of witnesses and both parties, which would be difficult to verify if the trial were held through online communication platforms like Zoom.

It is anticipated that the court hearings could last up to 2-3 weeks, although Epic Games is prepared to extend their duration even twice if necessary. We're curious to see how this all turns out.
