Elon Musk's Starlink Internet Kit Can be Up and Running in 5 Minutes
Installation of the Starlink satellite internet set is simple and requires no specialist knowledge. „We'll do it in 5 minutes,” claims Elon Musk on Twitter. Here are some unboxing videos and photos.
- Starlink satellite internet can be launched in less than 5 minutes, claims Elon Musk in his Twitter post.
Installation of Starlink satellite internet is a matter of moments. The service is currently in beta-testing phase. The first people have received their kits and describe the launch process as easy and not requiring any specialist knowledge. Elon Musk wrote on Twitter that the installation currently takes about 5 minutes, and in the future it will be simplified even further.
The subject of the post is a recording from a user who received his Starlink test kit. The video shows the contents of the large gray box with the SpaceX logo. The biggest element is the antenna dish and its rack. Interestingly, it is not a typical parabolic or offset receiver we know from satellite TV. It probably uses beamforming.
Another element of the set is a small router that looks a bit like the Cybertruck. Next we find a power unit and some cables. The connections use PoE technology, that is data and power supply in one cable. Of course, the manual is also present, with large diagrams, so that everyone can easily and quickly figure out how to assemble all this. The antenna has tilt control motors, so it sets up by itself. Just put it in a place where nothing obscures the sky, connect the rest and voila, you can surf the Internet. The recording below shows a more accurate unboxing. It lasts over 5 minutes because each element is discussed and shown to the camera:
The user who uploaded them has also done some tests. Starlink turns out to be quite fast - the download speed reaches 90 Mbps (some report even 140 Mbps), and sends at about 15 Mbps. The latency oscillates at 30 ms, and up to 300 ms under load. Playing less dynamic online games should be possible. However, it should be remembered that currently there are few users. Time will tell how it will work under higher load. The cost of the Starlink Internet service offered as part of the beta-test is $99 per month. Add to that the cost of the starter kit, which is priced at $500.
