Elite Dangerous - Legacy and Live Mode; Update 14 Explained
This article is about Legacy and Live mode in Elite Dangerous. We explain what changes Update 14 has introduced.
Elite Danderous received update 14 introducing a major war with the alien race Thargoids. However, many players were a little taken aback by it, as the game was split into 2 modes- Legacy and Live. In this article, we will explain what they are and the differences between them.
Legacy Mode
Legacy Mode is version 3.8 of Elite Dangerous. It does not include the latest storyline update. In addition, Legacy mode will not receive any major updates from now on. Time has stopped for this version of the game. So you do not have to worry about new enemies suddenly attacking your world, you will be able to live your life as before. On the other hand, you have to accept that the game in this mode will no longer be dynamically developed.
Live mode
Live mode is version 4.0 of Elite Dangerous. It will be supported with major updates from update 14 onwards. When playing Live mode, you can count on story expansions and new mechanics in the future. However, your world will never be the same again.
Legacy vs Live mode - multiplayer
The above changes mean that joint play between players on different versions of the game (3.8 and 4.0) is not possible. Legacy and Life are, in a way, becoming separate games. In Legacy, time has stopped, while in Live the situation will continue to evolve. If you want to play with friends, you must use the same version of the game.
