Elden Ring PC Glitch Lets Users Spoil Other Players' Save Data
A nasty exploit has been discovered in the PC version of Elden Ring, enabling malicious users to corrupt other players' save data.
Elden Ring is a great game, but in keeping with FromSoftware's tradition, the quality of its network code on PC cries for vengeance. A nasty vulnerability has just been discovered that is being maliciously exploited to spoil the fun for PC players.
- The vulnerability enables hackers to corrupt the saves of players whose world they invade.
- The result is that the game crashes, and upon restarting, the player's character ends up in a void where they fall endlessly.
- Fortunately this problem can be circumvented - after loading we should quickly press the map button, and once we manage to open it we can choose a quick travel point and move... It's not easy, but for now it's the only known method to get our character out of such trouble.
You can see what the situation looks like in action in the video below
Unfortunately, for now it is unknown when FromSoftware will patch this vulnerability.
Elden Ring debuted on February 25, simultaneously on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.

FromSoftware regularly messes up on PC, and gamers have to salvage the situation.
Unfortunately, this isn't the first time that FromSoftware's games have had such problems on PC. In the case of the Dark Souls series, hackers were also able to corrupt players' saves. In this case, the authors did not bother to patch these vulnerabilities, so fans had to do it themselves by creating several mods: Blue Sentinel (for DS3) and Blue Acolyte (for Dark Souls II), which fix these issues and counteract cheats in network modes. There are also similar projects available for Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition and Dark Souls: Remastered, but they have not been developed for many years, so their current effectiveness leaves much to be desired.
FromSoftware's approach to this issue is best exemplified by the fact that when, this January a new vulnerability was discovered in the code of the PC version of Dark Souls III, enabling hackers to remotely take control over a player's computer, the developers simply shut down the PvP servers not only in that game, but also in the PC editions of Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, Dark Souls II and Dark Souls: Remastered. Almost two months have passed since then, and the PC servers for these games are still down.
In this case, the fans came to the rescue again, developing a project DS3OS (Dark Souls 3 - Open Server)which allows players to set up their own servers Dark Souls III and play on them.
