Elden Ring Launch With Crazy Results on Steam and Major Technical Issues
Elden Ring's release has not been entirely successful. On PC, the game achieves wildly impressive activity scores, but players complain heavily about the game's performance.
Elden Ring, the latest action RPG by fromSoftware, has launched. The game was released simultaneously on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and PS5.
First findings from Elden Ring's debut on Steam - crazy activity scores, mixed reviews
Elden Ring hits bullseye on Steam
Current activity record of Elden Ring on Steam is 764,835 concurrent users. This result is many times higher than in the case of the biggest hits of FromSoftware so far, namely Dark Souls III (129,975 concurrent users) and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (125,315). What is more, the latest work of the team broke the records of its predecessors in just few minutes after the launch..
Significantly, before the end of this week Elden Ring will almost certainly improve this record several times. Most games achieve their best results during the first weekend after release. We are curious if the title will manage to beat the achievements of such hits as New World (913,634) or Cyberpunk 2077 (1,054,388).
Mixed reception on Steam
The fact that gamers thronged to Elden Ring does not mean that everyone is satisfied with its quality. On Steam, only 59% of user reviews are positive, which the service categorizes as "mixed reception".
Players are mainly complaining about:
- Terrible optimization - the game is said to stutter even on powerful PCs, which not only spoils the visual experience, but also severely hinders the gameplay, because combat requires a lot of precision,
- Lack of support for DLSS and ultrawide monitors,
- Frequent game crashes.
So practically all the complaints concern the technical layer. Widespread is praise for other elements of the game, such as atmosphere, world exploration or combat. The problem is that many players can not enjoy these advantages, because Elden Ring barely works on their PCs.
