Mix of Tomb Raider and Zelda; Is This Eidos Montreal's New IP?
Through job listings, we learned a lot of interesting things about the new brand of Eidos Montreal.
Job listings are often a great source of information on projects not yet officially announced. The latest example of this is Eidos Montreal.
- According to these announcements, Eidos Montreal is working on a new brand.
- The project will offer an open world, in which we will find both wilderness areas and villages, as well as large "civilized zones", which most likely means cities.
- Events will be shown from third-person perspective.
- Both combat and solving complex puzzles using an advanced physics engine will play an important role in the gameplay.
- During the game we will also face many platforming challenges, requiring the use of the parkour system offered by the game.
All this sounds promising. Eidos Montreal's credits include Shadow of the Tomb Raider, so it has experience in creating interesting platforming challenges and environmental puzzles. The news that an open world with varied zones will be run by a powerful physics engine, on the other hand, evokes associations with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Recall that Eidos Montreal is part of the Embracer group. According to reports from earlier this year the studio, together with Crystal Dynamics, is expected to release five AAA games by March 31, 2018.
We already know that among those five are a new installment of the Tomb Raider series, which will be published by Amazon Games, and most likely the next installment of the Deus Ex series. In addition, Crystal Dynamics is helping with Perfect Dark, and Eidos Montreal on new Fable. The latter game is an action RPG with an open world, so the experience gained during these works will certainly prove useful in the creation of the team's new brand.
