EA's CEO Already Played New Battlefield and Promises It Will Be ‘Another Tremendous Live Service'

The CEO of Electronic Arts is excited about a new game in the Battlefield series, but didn't infect fans with his enthusiasm. On the contrary, Andrew Wilson's words were received by gamers without excessive enthusiasm.

The latest financial report from Electronic Arts provided a wealth of information about the publisher's status. However, the attention of players was caught by the statement of CEO Andrew Wilson, who had the opportunity to play the next Battlefield and assured that it would be "another tremendous live service" (via The Motley Fool).

The EA head confirmed that the largest team in the brand's history is working on the project. Wilson is meant to be "thrilled" by what he witnessed (and participated in) during his visit to the EA DICE studio.

Investors may have liked such statements, but players aren't at all thrilled with Wilson's words. The remarks made by the CEO of Electronic Arts have clearly turned off Battlefield fans from the new installment of the series, as evident from the comments on social media. Some of them maliciously point out that Wilson's statement fails to mention whether the seventh installment will be a good game.

The source of this lack of trust is, of course, the history of the previous part of the series. Battlefield 2042 was also hyped up during its announcement, but the end result fell short of expectations. It's certainly not a contender for the title of the worst game of 2021. However, this doesn't change the fact that "mixed" reviews on Steam (46% positive) aren't a result that can make the developers of such a recognized series proud. Especially after more than a year of updates intended to improve the game, and effectively ending support.

In this situation, these and other general, vague assurances from EA don't arouse enthusiasm among players. As journalist Tom Henderson points out (via X), the company should change its approach to "communication and transparency" in contacts with players. For them, the announcement of a "tremendous live service" means that they will be waiting for a repeat of BF 2042.

Of course, it's possible that these accusations are unfounded and the new Battlefield will delight players at launch. However, it's not surprising that fans of the series have taken Wilson's words seriously and are eagerly awaiting details and materials from the next installment of the series.
