Today, EA has released The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection, re-releases of the original Sims games that have been teased over the last week. The original The Sims, was released in February of 2000, nearly 25 years ago, and this re-release by EA marks the first time it will be available digitally. Both The Sims and The Sims 2 are available on PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the EA App.

EA’s re-release of The Sims 1 and 2 marks the first time the original game is available digitally

On January 14th, the official The Sims X/Twitter account posted a video that served as a roadmap for The Sims 25th anniversary celebration. Most of the dates involved The Sims 4’s logo, but fans were drawn to the mysterious stretch of time from January 27th to the 31st labeled “Nostalgia Now.” Speculation at the time all but confirmed the planned re-release, but the case is closed with today’s announcement.

The two re-releases are bundled in a 25th Birthday Bundle deal to save a total of $10 on both games, but they are also available individually. The Sims comes to $19.99, while The Sims 2 is $29.99. Both games include nearly all the previously released DLC as well, only excluding the IKEA DLC released for The Sims 2. Hopefully that’s not the one DLC you were really hoping for.

EA answered some important questions in a post on their website, including the minimum system requirements and how to scale pixels in The Sims 1 for larger monitors. This page also explained how to import old saves to work with the new version of each game, so long-time fans of the originals won’t have to start fresh with this re-release. This new version of The Sims 1 and 2 will also support mods, with the stipulation that it is up to the individual mod creators to ensure they work.

This announcement came alongside a ridiculous video highlighting all the wild things that can happen in The Sims. The Grim Reaper constantly roams in the background, someone is abducted by aliens right out of the backyard, and a strange clown dances while sobbing. There is more to come as The Sims celebrates its 25th anniversary, but this re-release already makes it worth remembering.
