EA doesn't say no to another Mass Effect
Although Mass Effect: Andromeda was a huge let-down, EA has plans to bring the series back on tracks. EA's Executive Vice President Patrick Söderlund also claims that the criticism of Mass Effect: Andromeda was too strong.
Although Mass Effect franchise is, for obvious reasons, absent from gamescom 2017, GameReactor managed to talk to EA's Executive Vice President Patrick Söderlund about the future of the series. Söderlund says he sees no reason why EA shouldn’t go back to Mass Effect, especially if you consider the IP’s huge fanbase and how much profit it brough to the publisher.
However, it is hard to say whether the next Mass Effect will build on the story of Mass Effect: Andromeda. The team at BioWare has a responsible job of making the comeback count by setting the game in “a fresh, exciting place”, according to Söderlund. Fortunately, this time Casey Hudson is back on the team. It’s the Mass Effect trilogy executive producer, who has recently returned to BioWare after his departure in 2014. Hudson will play a crucial part in the development of the new Mass Effect. We hope that Mass Effect 1 and 2 co-writer Drew Karpyshyn, who’s also back at BioWare, will too.
Söderlund also expressed his feelings that, although the team did make some mistakes with Mass Effect: Andromeda, the game’s criticism was much too acute:
Well I think, my personal opinion is, I think that the game... I usually don't do this, but this is one of those places where I feel like the game got criticised a little bit more than it deserved. I think the game is actually a great game. Yes, we have to acknowledge the fact that there were some things that maybe we could have done better, absolutely, but as a whole, if you go in and you buy the game today with everything that's in it today, I believe that that's a game worth buying, personally.
