EA Boasts of Financial Success and Battlefield 2042 Test Results

Electronic Arts reports financial success and impressive popularity of Battlefield 2042's open beta.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. EA's revenues and profits increased compared to last year;
  2. 7.7 million people have played the open beta of Battlefield 2042;
  3. 100 million people played EA Sports games between April 1 and September 31, 2021;
  4. Blockchain and NFT are the future of the gaming industry, according to EA.

Electronic Arts has released its latest financial report. In the period from July 1 to September 31, 2021, the publisher generated revenue of $1.87 billion and the profit amounted to $294 million. This compares to $1.15 billion and $185 million respectively in the same quarter of 2020.

The most interesting part of the report, however, are not financial issues, but information about the results of individual games. We learned, among other things, that the open beta of Battlefield 2042 was played by 7.7 million people. The high popularity of the tests shows great interest in the game and bodes well for the future.

We will not have to wait long for the game, because its release will take place on November 19, 2021. The title will be released simultaneously on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

Electronic Arts also boasted about the results of its other games. EA Sports games were played by more than 100 million people in the first half of the current fiscal year, which is from April 1 to September 31, 2021. The threshold of 100 million players was also exceeded by the mobile game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, but in this case it is a result that has been accumulated since the day of its release in 2015.

While discussing the company's financial results, its CEO Andrew Wilson also touched on blockchain technology. He believes that it is the future of the gaming industry, but quite distant. He is particularly interested in non-exchangeable tokens (or NFTs), the use of which could enable players to monetize their gameplay. He envisions a model in which users would use cryptocurrencies to buy virtual items and then increase their value in-game to then resell them for a profit.

Electronic Arts is recruiting employees for projects related to NFTs and the blockchain technology. Wilson believes EA's brands put the company in a good position to monetize these types of solutions.

  1. Battlefield 2042 is the Return of the Good Old BF!
  2. Battlefield 2042's Anti-cheat has Already Been Cracked
  3. Battlefield series - official website
