This year's E3 conference of Electronic Arts kicked off with a bang thanks to the official announcement of Mass Effect Andromeda – the fourth installment in the hit series Mass Effect. The trailer you can see above confirmed one of the unofficial rumors that have been recently circulating online, namely that referring to the setting of the game. It’s the Andromeda galaxy, the largest galaxy of the Local Group. The trailer shows an N7 (i.e. the Systems Alliance) soldier navigating a new galaxy map, and then exploring a wasteland planet. In short snapshots we can see the well-known Mako vehicle, as well as a yet unknown alien race, which is most likely fought against by the Alliance’s army or another group led by the hero of the trailer. The entire teaser was built on Frostbite engine, developed by EA DICE for the Battlefield franchise.
According to the information revealed on BioWare’s official blog, in Mass Effect Andromeda we’ll once again be able to play as male or female. As previously announced, the new story will not be associated with the original trilogy about Commander Shepard, and will be set many years after the events it depicted.
Mass Effect Andromeda will debut during the Christmas period next year on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
