Dying Light 2's Story DLC Won't Require Completing the Game
The first story DLC for Dying Light 2 will not require the completion of the game. Its lead designer, Tymon Smektala from Techland, emphasized that the DLC will bet on unconventionality.
At the end of March we informed you that Dying Light 2 is getting closer and closer to the first big story DLC. The newest game by Techland receives new content on a regular basis - including an interesting New Game Plus mode and a previously unavailable quest introduced in update 1.3.0 - However, the aforementioned expansion is supposed to surprise the players and offer them much more variety and unconventionality than the base game.
DLC for everyone
This is according to the words of the game's main designer, Tymon Smektala. He made such a declaration back in March, and at the end of April he repeated it in an interview given to Nathan Birch from Wccftech. Moreover, the developer revealed that we will not have to complete the story campaign first in order to start the story in the expansion - we will be able to do it immediately after reaching Villedor, so roughly after one or two hours of play.
"What I can say right now is that the first one runs parallel to the main story, so it can be started right after Aiden arrives in The City. Since it’s the first one out the gate, we didn’t want to force players to finish the game before they’d be able to have fun with it.
I went through some of the speculations our community has expressed online, but I haven’t seen any of those theories get it right. So I hope that we’ll positively surprise people with this DLC."
Dying Light 2 is not a perfect game, but it was received quite warmly. What did Techland do best? You can find out in our texts:

New location
The main setting of the first story expansion is to be a location outside the borders of Villedor. Smektala assured that it won't be any of the areas we could see in the early previews of Dying Light 2 nor a cut-out fragment of the map, as this is not Techland's approach to video game development.
"It’s not that easy and it’s not really the way to approach game production. Some people don’t understand that when they find remnants of something in the game it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s cut content. Usually, it’s just that -- remnants of old prototypes, most often from the pre-production or early production stages, traces of past work that we either missed during clean-ups or left in the game for other reasons.
Bringing them back costs more than creating something from scratch, even if the community creates these urban myths about them. New DLCs and other content will definitely bring new areas for gamers to have fun with, but these will be created from scratch or will use the early prototypes more as an inspiration than actual resource."
Release date
We still haven't found out the specific release date of this DLC. Everything indicates, however, that it will come out in 2022. It seems that there's a lot to look forward to - especially since the DLC is supposed to include both engaging gameplay and important story choices.
