Gamers Help Dwarf Fortress Devs; January Brought an Absolute Record

Fan support for Dwarf Fortress seems to have no limits. At the beginning of December, the game went on Steam - since then, players have backed it with an exorbitant amount of money.

Dwarf strategy game Dwarf Fortress, which was released on Steam in early December 2022, has been a great success. The game, which for years was maintained almost exclusively by player donations, made a huge amount of money in January.

Millions for dwarves

The financial boom of the strategic RPG by Bay 12 Games was reported by the developers themselves in a post on the forum. According to them, in January Dwarf Fortress earned $7 million 230 thousand. This most likely took into account donations, revenue from sales on Steam in December (minus fees) and partly in January. This is a sum that the developers could only dream of so far.

The developers thanked everyone warmly for their financial support and purchase of the game. They also told what the funds will be used for:

Such a great financial result of Dwarf Fortress didn't come out of nowhere. Since the refreshed version of the game hit Steam, Bay 12 Games gained tons of new fans. The game is selling brilliantly, and the $40 you currently have to spend on Dwarf Fortress, does not seem too exorbitant a price for enthusiasts of this underground strategy.

Suffice it to say that currently the title on Steam has more than 17 thousand reviews, 95% of which are positive.
