Dragon Age: The Veilguard failed to meet EA's expectations. Result is worse than expected by half
Electronic Arts revealed its financial report for the third quarter of the fiscal year. It explicitly admits that Dragon Age: The Veilguard did worse than expected.
We have received official confirmation of what players have been speculating about for some time. Released in October last year, Dragon Age: The Veilguard didn't meet expectations.
DA: The Veilguard didn't achieve success
Electronic Arts published a preliminary financial report in which the company's projected results for the third quarter of the fiscal year (ended December 31, 2024) were revealed. The publisher stated that it has updated its forecasts and now anticipates a "mid-single digit loss" from games-services instead of a profit. This is a result of the "slowdown" of the initial momentum of EA Sports FC 25.
The report also conveyed that approximately 1.5 million players "engaged" in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, nearly half of what was anticipated. Taking into account that the term "sold" wasn't used, we can assume that players playing on PC via an EA Play Pro subscription were likely included. The company's CEO, Andrew Wilson, gave his comment on this matter.
During Q3, we continued to deliver high-quality games and experiences across our portfolio; however, Dragon Age and EA SPORTS FC 25 underperformed our net bookings expectations.
This message may be disappointing for fans of the series, especially those who liked The Veilguard. They had to wait quite a long time for the fourth installment, and its poor results may influence the potential creation of the fifth one. Especially since more key members are departing from the development team, which, incidentally, doesn't seem to concern the director of the new Mass Effect.
In the report under discussion, EA emphasized its confidence in its long-term strategy and anticipates a return to growth in the fiscal year 2026. We will know the detailed results for the third quarter on February 4th.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard was released on October 31 last year on PC, PS5, and XSX/S.
