Dragon Age 4 Will be Single Player. Electronic Arts Changes Plan
Dragon Age 4 will, by Electronic Arts' decision, be a full-fledged single-player RPG experience, not a live-service as originally planned.
Jason Schreier, one of the most popular and influential gaming journalists, published an article on Bloomberg, in which he reported on a rather interesting decision at Electronic Arts in the context of the upcoming Dragon Age installment (his source is an anonymous insiders). The title was supposed to be a live-service game with a significant multiplayer component, but it turns out that EA changed its mind and wants BioWare to design a single-player RPG. Why such decision? Because of what happened to two other games.
First, and very important for EA, was the success of Star Wars Jedi: The Fallen Order from Respawn Entertainment. The game proved that there is a demand in the market for this type of single-player experience, collecting a lot of positive reviews. In short, the American company wants to continue the policy based on the release of such titles.
Secondly, the failure of BioWare's Anthem also had a big influence on the future of Dragon Age 4. It was this title that became a negative symbol for the entire company. It was here that the emphasis was placed on the multiplayer element, and in the end the product failed the players' expectations. It's significant for the whole situation that just yesterday we informed about the cancelation of work on the repair update titled Anthem Next. So it's easy to see that this is EA's Achilles heel.
And now the question must be asked - should we laugh or cry hearing this? On the one hand, the upcoming Dragon Age will be a full-fledged RPG designed for single-player, but on the other Electronic Arts has long insisted that it includes a more or less intrusive system of microtransactions. Let's just hope that by the time of release the company will not change its mind again.
