Dragon Age 4 Not Coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

From the resume of a former BioWare employee we learned that Dragon Age 4 is being developed only for PC and next-gen consoles.

We learned that Dragon Age IV is being developed exclusively for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. This is good news, because this approach will enable BioWare not to worry about the limitations of old hardware.

We learned this information thanks to the LinkedIn profile of designer Daniel Nordlander. The developer worked at BioWare between 2017 and 2020, where he was responsible for, among other things, the new installment of the Dragon Age series. On the page, he listed only PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5 as hardware platforms for this game. This short entry alone would not be enough to convince us, but confirmation of these reports from reliable sources was obtained by VentureBeat's journalist Jeff Grubb.

The fact that the next part of the series will bypass old consoles should not be a special surprise, but large publishers are reluctant to abandon the crowds of players still owning last-gen consoles. This year's big launches, such as Battlefield 2042 and Call of Duty Vanguard, will also be released on PS4 and Xbox One, so it's good that the case of the next Dragon Age will be different.

Information from the developer's profile may suggest that the next installment of the series from the beginning was designed as a next-gen title. Hopefully, this will mean a big leap in quality compared to Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Unfortunately, we'll have to wait a long time for the next game. In December it will be three years since we saw the first teaser of the game. Despite this, the project is still at a relatively early stage of work. The latest leaks indicate that BioWare plans to release Dragon Age 4 only in 2023. With such a release date, creating editions for PS4 and Xbox One really would not make any sense.
